fitsmiForMoms.com commends the Walt Disney Company for stepping up in the childhood obesity crisis and announcing its plan to limit advertising on unhealthy food product and to begin offering healthier food choices at the Disney theme parks.

Beginning in 2015, advertising on the Disney channels, including The Disney Channel, Junior Disney and the ABC owned television channels during their children’s programming will be restricted to advertisers that promote food product that meets health criteria, including lowering sodium and fat.

At fitsmiForMoms.com and fitsmi.com, our goal is to help kids and teens get on a healthy track.  It is difficult to do this without the support of the media companies because what kids see and hear has a tremendous effect on their eating and exercise habits.  As a former entertainment executive myself, I know the power of the media and I encourage other companies to jump on board.  With the rise in Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and a host of other serious medical risks, our kids’ lives literally depend on it.
